Launch and Positioning

MG has not officially announced the launch date yet, but the M9 EV is expected to arrive in India sometime in 2025. When launched, it will likely take on the likes of the Kia Carnival EV (once launched) and premium MPVs from Toyota and BYD. MG is positioning the M9 EV as a premium electric people-mover — ideal for large families, VIP transport, or fleet buyers who want to go green.

Exterior Design

The M9 EV carries a bold, modern look with sharp LED lighting, a closed-off EV grille, and a high roofline that hints at its roomy interior. Expect dual-tone paint options and chrome detailing to elevate its street presence. Alloy wheels with aerodynamic designs and flush door handles give it that futuristic touch.

The design language is very similar to what we’ve seen in other global EV MPVs, like the Maxus MIFA 9 (on which the M9 EV is reportedly based).

Interior and Cabin Features

Inside, the M9 EV will likely offer a lounge-like cabin with captain seats, ambient lighting, and a multi-screen dashboard setup. MG is known for packing its cars with tech, so features like a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, and voice command integration are expected.

The flat floor, thanks to the EV platform, means excellent legroom for all three rows. The boot space is expected to be generous even with all seats up, making it practical for long-distance travel.

Powertrain and Range

While MG hasn’t confirmed the powertrain specs for the M9 EV in India yet, globally, the Maxus MIFA 9 comes with a 90 kWh battery pack and a claimed range of around 440–520 km (WLTP). If the Indian version carries similar specs, the M9 EV will be among the longest-range electric vehicles in its class.

Charging support is likely to include both AC and DC fast charging. With a DC fast charger, it may be able to top up from 30% to 80% in under 40 minutes.

Expected Price in India

The MG M9 EV is expected to be priced between ₹50 lakh and ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom). This places it in the high-end MPV category, directly appealing to buyers looking for a luxurious electric alternative.

While it won’t be a mass-market product, it will cater to a niche but growing audience that values EV performance, brand presence, and comfort in one package.

MG M9 EV vs. Competition

At present, the M9 EV won’t have many direct rivals in India. However, it could compete with:

  • Toyota Innova HyCross (Strong Hybrid) – Not electric, but in the same size and luxury space.
  • BYD E6 – A smaller electric MPV, but MG M9 EV will offer more features and space.
  • Kia Carnival (upcoming EV version) – Will be its closest competitor once launched.

Final Thoughts

The MG M9 EV brings a refreshing twist to the Indian MPV market. It combines the practicality of a family van with the sustainability of electric power, wrapped in a luxury experience.

For those ready to move beyond conventional fuel-powered people movers, the M9 EV looks like a promising choice — stylish, silent, and smart.
